About Wannon Falls
Wannon Falls is the best known waterfall in the Southern Grampians and one of the most striking natural landmarks in Western Victoria. The Wannon River drops around 30 metres in a single plunge over the lip of an ancient volcanic escarpment into a deep, near-circular punchbowl below — a classic curtain waterfall that has been drawing visitors and landscape painters since the 1800s.
The falls sit within the Wannon Falls Scenic Reserve, a well-kept picnic ground shaded by river red gums. An observation deck delivers the main view straight across to the falls, and a rotunda with interpretive information boards explains the volcanic geology that formed the escarpment. Short walking tracks lead along the top of the gorge to further vantage points looking down into the plunge pool.
The reserve has sheltered and open picnic tables, public barbecues, toilets and ample parking, plus a small unpowered campground beside the river. Flow is strongest from June to October and the falls can reduce to a trickle over summer, so time your visit for after decent rain. Wannon Falls pairs perfectly with Nigretta Falls a short drive away — the two are very different in character and are best seen together.

Getting There
From Lake Hamilton Motor Village, head west out of Hamilton on the Glenelg Highway (B160) towards Coleraine and Casterton. The turn-off to Wannon Falls is clearly signposted about 19 km from town, just off the highway near the Wannon township — follow Camerons Road a short distance to the reserve car park. The route is sealed throughout and suitable for caravans and takes roughly 15 minutes from the park.
