About Nigretta Falls
Nigretta Falls is one of Western Victoria's most impressive — and least crowded — waterfalls, set on the Wannon River just a short drive north-west of Hamilton. Where nearby Wannon Falls drops in a single sheer curtain, Nigretta spreads wide across a broken face of ancient basalt, splitting into a series of cascades that fan out and tumble down the rock in dozens of separate channels. After good winter and spring rain it is a genuinely spectacular sight.
The reserve is easy to visit for all ages and abilities. An observation deck sits right beside the car park and picnic ground, giving an immediate view across the full width of the falls without any walking at all. For a closer look, a short walking track and a set of steps lead down towards the base, where you can feel the spray, hear the roar of the water and explore the rocky riverbanks below the cascade.
The picnic ground has tables, electric barbecues, public toilets and plenty of parking, with easy 2WD and caravan access — making it a relaxed spot for morning tea or lunch. The falls are at their most powerful between June and October and can slow to a trickle by late summer, so plan your visit after rain. Nigretta and Wannon Falls are only a short drive apart and most visitors take in both on the same outing.

Getting There
From Lake Hamilton Motor Village, head north-west out of Hamilton on the Glenelg Highway (B160), then turn right into Nigretta Road, which is signposted. Follow Nigretta Road and turn left into the Wannon–Nigretta Road, then take the signposted turn-off down to the falls car park. The road is sealed the whole way and suitable for 2WD vehicles and caravans — roughly a 15-minute drive from the park.
