About the Botanic Gardens

Established in 1870, the Hamilton Botanic Gardens are one of Victoria's finest regional botanic gardens and a beloved green oasis in the heart of the city. Covering 13 hectares of beautifully maintained grounds, the gardens feature an extraordinary collection of mature exotic and native trees, many of which were planted in the 1870s and have reached magnificent proportions.

The gardens are a living museum of horticultural history, showcasing seasonal flower beds that burst with colour throughout the year, a charming heritage rotunda that has hosted concerts and community events for over a century, and a restored conservatory that houses delicate tropical and sub-tropical specimens. The Children's Garden provides a dedicated space for young visitors to learn about nature and gardening.

Guided heritage tree tours are available for groups and provide fascinating insights into the history of the gardens and the stories behind individual specimen trees. The gardens are also a popular venue for wedding photography, with their lush backdrops and historic structures providing stunning settings throughout all seasons.
